Default Sugar Mtn. TR Sat 11/28/09

I decided at 10am this morning to head on over to Sugar and get a few turns in. Had a great day and pulled an afternoon session. Made laps on the upper part of the mountain where the line was almost nothing. The bottom was ok, but I stayed away.

Snow coverage was really good considering that everything was bare 48 hours ago.

White stripe

Good snowmaking last night covered up pretty well

looking down

such a nice day

top

thanks to these things, we can ski

and these

base was very low, but I never hit a rock or much mud on the slope at all, only real mud was on loading and unloading

A few thin spots

but I did wear the "rock skis" just in case

glad I wore the rock skis now

sweet!!!

My first trip to Sugar Mtn. was great! I had a great time and give huge props to them for opening so early with so little snow!

Thanks for the TR and pics. Certainly hope for more snow by SugarFest on Dec. 12-13. I'm hoping to demo some skis.

Its amazing that a ski area can get away with this:

I know Sugar gets trashed a lot on this board, but pictures like this back up every single disparaging comment. What a joke.

they could have shoveled enough to take the edge off of this...but I guess that was just too much work.

Even with all the mud, I still give them props for opening!!! I walked away happy just knowing I got to make turns and feel the carve!

does anyone know why the lift operators had to scan your lift ticket every time you went through the line, it wasn't a problem today but if that will be the norm I can see it being a logistical nightmare when humanity decides to come in full force.

^I assume they are trying to crack down on people skirting the system. By the afternoon, it was a nightmare. It took approximately 25 minutes just to get through the line and on to the lift.

Southern Skiing, thanks for getting your pics up and the TR. I wasn't able to get home before you posted yours. Your TR was right on the money with what I was thinking also. How did like the drop off of the chair @ unloading?

25 minutes just to get to the lift?? Isn't that the norm on even a slow day though? lol

I'm glad I stayed at home. That mud looked pretty gnarly.

If they are, thats an excercise in stupidity! Theyll lose WAY more people to other resorts. How many people could they possibly catch doing that? And would it EVER justify the amount of people theyll lose becuz of long lift lines? The logic is beyond jacked up but I know what theyre thinking: "If we have long lift lines it means we've still got enuf people coming here"

Lets hope theyre just doing it as a form of employee training or because of misunderstanding between employee and supervisor or something.

Today was another example of how impersonal the experience is at Sugar. I do give them props for opening up and having pretty good snow for November in NC, but it was just another annoyance that I have to add to my list for Sugar. I do wish that they would be a little more conscious of the customer service they provide and not provide a what i would call "Disney Experience," of just another wallet to take money from.

Sugar gives me the eeby jeebies for some reason. Maybe its that ugly hotel on the top of the mountain, but the whole place makes me feel uncomfortable. I do like some of the runs and stuff, I really like the rock on switch back or whatever its called.

thanks for the tr, I wanted to see if sugar delivered the goods.
